The Kind of Plastics Available for Injection Molding

Plastic Parts With Resin

There are many different kinds of plastic available for companies to take advantage of. During the injection molding process, it all depends on what the company is going to be using the plastics for. From food carrying to liquid storage and chemical containers, there are different plastics for different jobs. For the most part, these different kinds of plastics can be broken down into these seven common offerings. When looking for injection molding in Dayton, Ohio and the surrounding area, it is necessary to understand what these different plastics are and how each is able to help.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

This is an extremely common plastic type. It is most often seen in single use water bottles, peanut butter containers, two liter bottles of soda and similar offerings. It is able to be stored up to 140 degrees, although after this some chemicals from the plastic can dissolve into the plastic.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

This is basically a higher end version of the previous kind of plastic. It is a thicker plastic used for milk jugs, bottle caps, detergent bottles and similar items. It is used to hold more weight and provide a stiffer construction. This helps prevent possible leakage in the product and it is designed to sit around a bit longer. This kind of plastic is generally dishwasher safe and can hold up to stronger temperatures.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Most people best know PVC as a plastic plumbing pipe. However, it does have other uses as well. This includes saran wrap, exterior furniture and flooring. PVC can be used in composite building material, which is what makes it an excellent option for many different building products. However, it is not designed to handle food storage.

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

This is an extremely thin form of plastic. However, many consumers use it on a daily basis as it is used to construct trash bags, grocery bags and plastic film.

Polypropylene (PP)

This is a thicker yet still moveable form of plastic. It is found in bottle caps and drinking straws. It is also often used in food containers as well.

Polystyrene (PS)

Packing peanuts, styrofoam, cups and tableware is all made from PS. However, it should not be used for long term food storage.

Other Plastics

A group of other kinds of plastics fall under this category. Tupperware falls under this category due to its constructive nature.
