19 Presses / One Goal
Proto Plastics operates 19 injection molding presses, including Roboshot electric injection molding machines. The presses range in tonnage up to 440 tons enabling us to handle a broad range of part applications. Each one is a microprocessor-controlled Cincinnati Milacron machine, which gives us great repeatability, flexibility in press scheduling, and fast reaction to customer changes. We routinely operate on a two shift basis. This minimizes unnecessary press shutdowns and startups, lowers our operating costs, and maintains the capacity necessary for high volume requirements.
Insert Molding/Over Molding
Proto Plastics has insert molded and over molded numerous types of components including plastic parts, windows, bushings, shafts, stampings, screw machine parts, inserts and electro-mechanical parts. Insert molding and over molding are highly efficient methods of reducing assembly and labor costs, increasing reliability, and improving design flexibility.

Plant-Wide ERP System
Proto Plastics was among the first to implement the IQMS EnterpriseIQ Manufacturing and Production Control System. This plastics industry specific system integrates order entry, scheduling, quoting, inventory control, purchasing, labor reporting, billing and accounting. All of our plastic injection molding production presses are controlled and scheduled through the RealTime Machine Monitoring module. Supervisors can view every aspect of press operation as it happens, spotting and correcting small variations before they grow into larger problems.
Improving Productivity Through Automation
Proto Plastics is dedicated to improving productivity through automation. The presses are operated in an automatic mode to the greatest extent possible. Parts are removed from the injection mold by robotics or conveyor systems. The result is a reliable, efficient, and cost effective system to improve the injection molding process.
